Josh
Tickell grew up amongst the oil refineries
of Louisiana where he watched members of his family suffer
from oil-related cancers and diseases. He began to look
for alternatives to petroleum in college, when he discovered
biodiesel.
Josh
first saw biodiesel being used whilst working
on a farm in the former East Germany as part of his college
degree. Fascinated with the potential of vegetable oil fuel,
he came back to the USA, bought an old diesel powered Winnebago
van that he painted with sunflowers and called the Veggie
Van. He built a small biodiesel processor that he named
The Green Grease Machine and then set of on a 25000 mile,
2-year-tour of the USA powered by the biodiesel he made
from used grease collected from fast food restaurants along
the way. This journey of discovery became known as The
Veggie Van Voyage.
A number of TV and radio show
producers and newspaper and magazine journalists have been
enthralled by Josh Tickell
and his Veggie Van, seeing both the fun and
the serious aspects to the message he delivers. Josh has appeared
on TV shoes such as The Today Show, Dateline NBC, CNN news,
The National Geographic Channel and The Discovery Channel,
on radio shows like MPR, Jeff Rense and Jim Hightower and
in print in the LA Times, The Independent(UK), The Smithsonian
Magazine, Maxim Magazine and Mother Earth News.
At the conclusion of the Veggie
Van tour Josh wrote his first book From the Fryer to the Fuel
Tank The Complete Guide to Using Vegetable Oil as an
Alternative Fuel. "From the Fryer"
has become renowned as the book on biodiesel and has been
credited as being the starting point for many alternative
fuel enthusiasts and upcoming biodiesel industry leaders both
here and abroad.
Josh Tickell
has consulted for companies and organizations such as National
Biodiesel Board, Arizona State House of Representatives, Solar
Energy International and Clif Bar.
Joshua is recognized as one
of the countries most engaging and inspirational public speakers
on the subject of alternative fuel, specializing in biodiesel.
He has spoken at numerous educational establishments including
MIT, Ohio University, Bard College, Vassar College and Colorado
College.
Josh Tickell
is currently promoting his new book, titled 'Biodiesel
America' which he has written in conjunction with
